Trainees' Experiences With Supervision

Greetings,

We are researchers from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, and you are invited to take part in a research study. The present survey is developed to examine former Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) trainees’ experience and satisfaction with their fieldwork supervision. To participate in this study, you should have completed your supervised experience hours within the last five years. If you are currently accruing your supervised experience hours, this survey is not appropriate for you.

This is an anonymous survey, and your personal information, such as your name and any identifying information about you, will not be collected.

What am I being asked to do?

If you participate in this project, you will be asked to fill out a survey.

Taking part in this study is your choice.

Your participation in this project is completely voluntary. You may stop participating at any time. If you stop being in the study, there will be no penalty or loss to you.

Why is this study being done?

The purpose of this project is to understand common practices, methods, and barriers that BACB trainees encountered in their Supervised Fieldwork Experience.

What will happen if I decide to take part in this study?

The survey will consist of 30 open-ended and multiple-choice questions. It will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. The survey questions will include questions like, “Are there any practices other than those covered in the above options that you found beneficial through your Supervised Experience Fieldwork?” (open-ended) and “To what extent did you have these practices incorporated into your own individual Supervised Fieldwork Experience?” (multiple-choice). The survey is accessed on a website to which we will provide you a link.

What are the risks and benefits of taking part in this study?

We believe there is little risk in participating in this research project. However, you may become stressed or uncomfortable answering any of the survey questions. If you do become stressed or uncomfortable, you can skip the question or take a break. You can also stop taking the survey or withdraw from the project altogether.

A potential benefit of completing this survey for you could be an opportunity to reflect and share your experience and opinions about your own supervised fieldwork that, in turn, will contribute to the greater knowledge about this topic. Furthermore, the results of this project may help future BACB trainees to gain quality supervision.
